Cynthia Mandal is a recurring character in Season 2 of I Am Frankie. She served as the hidden main antagonist in the second half of Season 2.
Summary[]
Cynthia was friends with Sigourney since they were in High School. Cynthia was not said about until the episode I am...Under Suspicion. She comes to the Gaines house everyday to check Frankie's memory files while Sigourney's away in space.
In the episode I am...in Need of a Plan it is revealed that she is the head of WARPA.
Character History[]
Before 2017[]
When Cynthia was young, she met Sigourney in high school, and both became best friends. Cynthia built a little robot named Beto, which she always took to the parties she attended with Sigourney. After graduating, she lost contact with Sigourney. At some point after her teenage years, Cynthia became corrupted and became the head of WARPA, keeping her connection to the government agency a secret and running the organization from the shadows.
I Am Frankie[]
Season 2[]
Taking advantage of the fact that Sigourney had plans to travel to space to work on the International Space Station, Cynthia contacted her and offered to supervise Frankie and take care of her maintenance.
After years Cynthia reunited with Sigourney. During that encounter, Cynthia proved to be nice, loving, and protective not only of Sigourney, but also of Frankie and her family. Following Sigourney's trip to space, she goes to the Gaines house every day to supervise Frankie. Cynthia offered to help Frankie with her audition for the lead role in the play “Frankenstein's Bae.” Cynthia provided a file she had created herself, but unexpectedly, this caused Frankie to adopt behavior similar to the classic Frankenstein monster. However, during the night, Cynthia managed to get Frankie back to normal.
When Frankie stole the encrypted WARPA master plan file, she asks Cynthia for help decrypting it but to supposedly keep Frankie safe, Cynthia let her android son, Beto, chew up and destroy the disk containing it. But luckily Dayton kept a backup copy of the file
When Dayton and Frankie finally encrypt the file with the help of Rachel, Cynthia was shown in the video which raised suspicion with Frankie and Dayton. In order to verify her alignment with WARPA, Dayton and Frankie let Rachel check some articles regarding Cynthia while in a disguise that she was creating a backstory for the "characters" of Frankie and Dayton's "game". Rachel later concluded that Cynthia was a WARPA agent.
Dayton and Frankie revealed to Will and Jenny that they have reason to believe that Cynthia was a WARPA agent. However, when Cynthia overheard them, she revealed that she was the head of WARPA.
Her true personality appeared after she revealed herself to be the head of WARPA. This is shown when she threatened Will that she would harm Frankie if he called the police or authorities to try to have her arrested. Furthermore, she swore to Frankie that sooner or later she would cooperate in Project Q. Later, when WARPA technicians took control of the international space station, she threatened the lives of Sigourney and the other crew members by sending them to the deep space if Frankie doesn't cooperate with his plans for world domination. After Frankie destroyed her implantation robot, she wanted to force her to surgically implant robotic parts into Cole herself to turn him into an HRO (Human-Robotic Organism).
When Andrew, Simone and Mr. Kingtom managed to escape and arrive in time to stop Frankie from operating on Cole and informed him that WARPA had lost full control of the international space station, Cynthia realized that her plans were being sabotaged and He threatened them with an electromagnetic pulse weapon and ordered Frankie to continue with the procedure of implanting the robotic parts into Cole. However, Cole managed to disarm her and put her deep sleep helmet on her, leaving her unconscious on the ground as they escaped from the WARPA base.
She ended up being arrested along with all of her workers on charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, embezzling government funds, and attempting to overthrow the legitimate government and take over a space station.
